Protest is the action and effect of protesting (proclaim or declare a purpose, express a complaint or disagreement impetuously). Protests can be manifested through a march, a demonstration, a public letter, etc.

For example: "The main avenue was cut for eight hours by a protest from the construction guild", "A student protest ended with a confrontation with the police that left three injured as a balance", “What happened to the customer at table 24? The counter has just approached to protest the bad attention. ”.

The protest can be a complain spontaneous and informal , manifested in a loud voice: “A lady got angry and her protest was heard throughout the mall”, "Please lower your voice, if you want to protest you can request the complaint book".

In other cases, the protests become public exhibitions organized by activists or political movements . The protest, in this sense, is a social or political act that seeks to obtain something or modify a certain situation.

On the occasion of the economic crisis that has been going on in Spain as well as for the numerous cases of political corruption and also for the cuts that the government is making in areas such as health and education, this country is making endless protests.

Madrid is one of the most important Spanish cities in terms of protests, taking place in historical moments such as 15-M or 22-M. The first one took place on May 15, 2011 and was also known as the movement of the indignant. It consisted of a citizen action that consisted of camping peacefully for many days in the well-known Puerta del Sol. The objective was none other than to express their rejection of the country's bipartisanship and also to bet because there was a real democracy.

The 22-M, meanwhile, took place on March 22, 2014 and has taken the name of "March for dignity." Millions of people, from all over the country, took the main arteries of Madrid to claim for the rights that have been cut for them, for the resignation of the government, for justice and for the need to improve working conditions.

With the objective that the protest is known by public opinion, these exhibitions usually take place in emblematic spaces such as avenues, squares or in front of government buildings (the government house, some ministry ). The more people who participate in the protest, the more successful the demonstration and, therefore, the greater the possibility that the claim will be addressed.

The marches , the strikes , the pickets , the boycotts , the escraches and the cacerolazos They are modes of protest spread throughout the world.

In addition to all this we should highlight the existence of another series of expressions or facts that use the term we analyze. This is, for example, the Spiral Protest. It is a historical document of the 16th century in which various princes and cities were totally against the annulment of religious tolerance carried out by Carlos V.
