From Latin speculatĭo, speculation is the action and effect of speculating (get lost in a hypothesis without real basis, reflect deeply, carefully record something to examine it). For example: "We think it is likely that he has left not to pay his debts, although it is only a speculation", "According to my speculation, the waters should go down in the next forty-eight hours.", "A scientist should never be guided by mere speculation".
In the world of journalism, sometimes the media professionals, until they get the evidence and the sources that certify the information they have obtained, what they do is speculate on a given fact. An action is that brings diverse and varied theories about a given issue.
We cannot forget that Speculation is the name of one of the best known games that exists in the United Kingdom and the United States. Specifically, that one became popular and expanded during the 19th century thanks to the numerous bets that it managed to establish from a card game.
In the field of literature we have to establish that the term speculation is also used. More precisely it is used to create the concept of speculative fiction, which comes to define a whole set of genres that have fantasy as an essential element.
That means, therefore, that within that we find terror, science fiction or uchrony, which would be the alternative historical novel, among others. In this way works of speculative fiction would be considered works such as "The Lord of the Rings", by J.R.R. Tolkien; "The dream of a summer night" by William Shakespeare or "Hippolytus" by Euripides.
The concept is also used at the economic level, although with a pejorative sense. Speculation, in this area, is a commercial or financial operation which is carried out with merchandise or securities with the objective of obtaining profit from the variations of the prices or of changes in other variables.
The speculator does not intend to use the good that acquires, since its only objective is to take advantage of price fluctuations. That is why it is not involved in the management of purchased goods. The will of the speculator is to buy at a price and sell to another major.
Speculation, therefore, is based on the forecast and in an analysis of the evolution of prices. This practice is poorly seen at the social level since speculators can force prices to rise or fall above their real value (by increasing demand or selling artificially).
All this without forgetting what is called real estate speculation and that is the action carried out by every person who sells and buys real estate with the clear objective of, taking advantage of market fluctuations, then reselling them and obtaining numerous benefits. .
For the philosophy , speculation is the intellectual process that allows the dialectical resolution of those contradictions that appear in a higher order unit.
