The dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE ) recognizes multiple meanings of the term arc , which comes from the Latin word arcus. The first one is used in the field of geometry and refers to a fragment of a curve .

A geometric arc, in this way, is a part of a circle . It can also be said that an arc is a curve which allows to join two points. Suppose two segments are drawn from the center of a circle, which reach different points on the edge. The curve fragment formed by the union of these points is an arc.

In sports As the soccer , he hockey and the handball , it's called arch or goal to the frame composed of two vertical posts and a horizontal third that joins the other two. Players must try to get the ball through the arc to score a goal.

The arches have a net which is responsible for retaining the ball when he entered. On the other hand, a line marked on the field of play between the two parallel posts helps the referee to see if the ball actually entered, or not, into the goal.

The arch is also the device that allows tighten a rope for the launch of a arrow . The shooter must take the bow and push the rope back with the arrow so that when released, it comes off with force.

The element of the architecture that leaves an open place between two walls or pillars and the musical instrument which has one or two tense strings that vibrate are also called the bow.

Within the architectural scope we come across a wide variety of types of arches. Specifically, we are referring to the half-point, the pointed, the lowered, the flying butt or the triumphal, among others. That without forgetting the rampant, the adintelado, the horseshoe, the tudor or the catenary.

Also within this field we find monuments that bear in their name the term that occupies us. This would be the case, for example, of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

In the same way, it should not be overlooked that ARCO is the name of one of the most important art events worldwide. We are referring to the International Contemporary Art Fair, which takes place in Madrid, exactly at IFEMA, and which has been in operation since 1982.

Supporting this type of art, giving visibility to new artists and even promoting collecting are three of the main objectives that this event manages to fulfill, which has become fundamental in the cultural agenda of the Spanish capital.

Also, we cannot forget that Arco is also what a Spanish singer and songwriter calls himself. Specifically, it is the artistic name of Antonio Arco, who was to be the leader of the band El puchero del hortelano. With that name he is now developing his professional career alone, and has managed to place himself in the top positions of the sales list in Spain with his album entitled “Uno”. This album where songs like "A perfect day", "House of cards" or "Morning and face" were included.
